Checkerboard, Collectible, Maya Basket

Hand coiled and stitched by a female Maya artisan, these baskets are truly collectible and one-of-a-kind items, boasting the name of the artist on the underside. They are practical for holding anything from paper clips to jewelry and are the perfect accessory for any collector or decorator. This pattern is extremely difficult to execute, as every other "column" of Jippy Jappa is hand-wrapped in the dark brown color.

The medium "Checkerboard" basket measures 5" high and 24" in circumference, and sells for $95.00 .

Chevron, Large, Collectible, Maya Basket

The large "Chevron" basket measures 12" high and 37" in circumference, and sells for $170.00 .

This Maya Basket, hand-coiled and stitched by a Maya woman from Belize is a beautiful example of a classic Maya basket. While each basket is slightly different in pattern and size, each is coiled tightly with a variety of shades of a plant fiber called Jippy Jappa. A circular shape, the basket measures approximately 16.5 inches around and 6 inches from the bottom of the basket to the center of the lid. Adding to the basket's value, the artisan's name is sewn onto the basket.

This traditional hand-craft skill respects the value of rain forest wood as carvers use a single tree for many years or use the scrap wood when a tree has been cut down by a logging operation. An Authentic, Hand-made Maya Violin Used in Traditional Maya Music

This unique, hand-carved violin is used by the Mayas along with other instruments such as the harp when they play their traditional music. It is hand-carved and put together by a well-known violin maker from a village famous for its woodcarvers. Adding a wonderful and unique decorative touch to any living room, it will become a great conversation piece.
