With a body size of 21 by 21 inches, this tote is the perfect walk-around, shop around, or “take to meetings” bag. It is handwoven by a Maya woman on a traditional back-strap loom with a pattern of pin and broad stripes in dark and medium-light chocolate brown, golden yellow, and clay. The outside pocket in a slightly different pattern is perfect for accessories, a cell phone and small wallet.
Lined with a heavy weight, off-white canvas, it is easy to see what you’ve put inside. The bag closes with leather cording and a wooden, horn-shaped button.

MayaBags® Sling
For each textile design, the hand-embroidered strap is uniquely patterned and executed in a
complementary color. Each strap is backed with the lining fabric selected for the particular bag
and is hand-appliqued onto the bag. The bag’s double pull closure is made of leather string.
With a base made of handwoven fibers from the giant Agave plant, the purse is
protected on the bottom.

The MayaBags® Recycled Rice Bag Shopper or Carry All
Loving the graphics on the plastic woven bags used for packing rice, flour, dolomite and other goods and wanting to save land fills from more trash, we decided to hand embroider the gaphics on the bags used in Belize and turn them into large shoppers, beach bags, or carry alls. Best, the embroidery also puts the Maya women who are artisanal embroiderers to work. So, they’re saving our planet and helping preserve traditional Maya hand skills one bag at a time!
The Shopper is sized approximately 30” long by 20” wide and is fully lined in all-cotton muslin. Each bag is signed by the artisan who executed the embroidery.
